The Korea Game Policy Autonomous Organization will hold a forum on the theme of 'Game Industry and Policy in the Endemic Era'

The Korea Game Policy Autonomous Organization (GSOK) held the 11th GSOK Forum at the Gwanghwamun Press Center in Seoul on the 18th under the theme of 'Game Industry and Policy in the Endemic Era'.

As a venue to discuss the changing trends and policy directions of the game industry in line with the COVID-19 pandemic era, Professor Shin Hye-ryeon of Myongji University gave the first presentation under the theme of 'Game Industry and Development Direction in the Pandemic and Endemic Era'.

Professor Shin said "As we enter the end of the pandemic, the game genre is diversifying, advertising monetization is strong, and multi-platform and device games are growing."The game market in India, Latin America, and Southeast Asia is strong.", he explained. He then cited production using AI as an example, and saw that it would be necessary to make games that utilized their strengths.

Dr. Lee Jong-im (executive member of the Cultural Solidarity), who presented the second presentation, said under the theme of 「"Despite the expansion of the scope of inclusion in culture and arts and game industry support policy in the Endemic Era", it is necessary to diagnose whether discussions on the actualized support policy are actively taking place.", he explained.

Kim Nam-gul, head of the Korea Creative Content Agency's Game New Technology Division, Lee Kyung-hyuk, a game critic, Choi Eun-kyung, a professor at Hanshin University, and Choi Seung-woo, director of the Game Industry Association's policy bureau, participated in the discussion. The debaters expressed their opinions, but agreed that the game industry should understand and adapt to changes in the market and that research on industrial and cultural aspects was needed.

Chairman Hwang Sung-ki of GSOK (Professor of the Graduate School of Law at Hanang University), who hosted the forum, said, "The domestic game industry is in a difficult situation due to the decline in demand for existing games as we enter the end of the pandemic era. It is necessary to discuss in-depth how the game industry can adapt to the new environment and become competitive, and what are the support policies needed for it." he said.
