An owner who died of obesity by giving too much food to his dog was sentenced to prison.

According to local media such as the New Zealand Herald, a New Zealand court sentenced A, a woman living in Manurewa, Auckland, to two months in prison on animal abuse charges.

Along with compensation, a 12-month ban on raising dogs was also imposed.

According to New Zealand's Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), in October 2021, an obese dog 'nugi' was found at A's home and transferred to an animal shelter.

Nuggets were fat enough to have to stop to breathe three times during the 10-meter walk from home to the car.

His legs also stumbled as if they couldn't bear the weight of his body.

As a result of veterinary examination, the silkworm weighed 53.7 kg.

There was too much fat around the chest to hear the heartbeat with a stethoscope, and conjunctivitis and skin tumors were also found.

The SPCA said "One of the most obese animals I've ever met at the association."

The veterinarian explained "Nugi must have suffered severe stress and long-term discomfort due to weight gain."

The reason for this obesity seems to be that the owner, A, gave too much food.

She confessed to feeding eight to 10 pieces of chicken every day in addition to dog biscuits.

Under SPCA protection, the fistula lost 8.9 kg, but died suddenly from acute bleeding due to liver rupture.

Subsequent autopsies revealed additional health complications, including liver disease and Cushing's disease.

In response, the SPCA filed a complaint with the prosecution against A on charges of animal abuse, saying, `The owner is responsible for making his pet obese due to excessive food and lack of exercise.'

The court ordered two months in prison and payment of compensation, saying the charges were admitted.
