Archaeologists recently discovered a 4,000-year-old temple at the Erimi site in Cyprus, Daily Star said.
Here, a tombstone about 2.1 meters high was excavated, with a glossy, smooth surface, and a small cup-shaped circular pattern in the center.
Luca Bombardieri, a professor at the University of Siena in Italy who leads the excavation team, said, `The tombstone is believed to have been standing in the center of the original room, but collapsed, smashing a large jar and circular fire pit" he said.
In addition, the remains of a young woman were also excavated from the site.
The remains were severely broken skulls and heavy stones were placed over the chest.
Professor Bombardieri estimated "It seemed as if he was trying to keep her from moving" "It appears that he was sacrificed in offerings or killed for religious reasons, etc."
He said "This is the oldest site ever discovered in Cyprus"There will have to be more research on the collective behavior of the community as well as the function and ideological value of the temple".
