In China, a service that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to predict the face of a fetus is gaining popularity among parents.

According to the South China Morning Post, tens of thousands of customers flocked to the service, which is offered at prices ranging from about 10 yuan (about 1,900 won) to 30 yuan on 'Tao Bao', China's largest e-commerce platform.

The provider claims that AI can be used to generate a photo of the newborn's face from one or more ultrasound images.

In addition, the baby's future face can be predicted from "4D ultrasound images", it introduces. Some companies are also providing services to predict a child's face until the age of five.

The companies said they were using a program called 'Midjourney'.

A midjourney is a Generative AI tool that draws pictures.

According to the company, if you enter ultrasonic images provided by customers and several Generative AI tools, it will generate 4 photos.

Some companies charge more by trimming photos with Photoshop. Generally, it takes 30 to 120 minutes to complete one image.

However, the similarity and sharpness of faces generated by AI programs are not reliable.

The service provider argued that "the accuracy of the results cannot be guaranteed and will have 80-90% similarity with ultrasound faces"."

In this regard, experts said parents often think of the service as fun rather than a serious scientific outcome.

Experts pointed out that "ultrasonic scans do not accurately reflect the baby's face after birth because they are a composite image of multiple images taken by multiple cameras"

It is also that when an image is captured when the baby moves, the face can become blurred.

A pregnant woman who used the company also said, `I received an AI-generated baby face, and it looks the same as other baby faces.'
