Recently, the number of food poisoning patients at a ryokan (Japanese inn) in Oita Prefecture, Japan has exceeded 530.

According to Japanese media such as TBS and Kyodo News, a group food poisoning accident occurred at 'Ryokan Kurota Keso' in Shonaicho, Yufu City, Oita Prefecture.

The number of patients counted so far is 537, the customers and employees who ate here from August 3 to 12. The age ranges from 1 to 78 years old.

They showed symptoms of food poisoning, including diarrhea, after eating food and water at a restaurant in Ryokan.

As a result of analyzing temporary specimens of some patients, norovirus was detected.

Oita Prefecture health officials said they collected and tested spring water used for cooking from the ryokan, but no norovirus was detected.

However, about 10 out of those who directly drank the hot spring water supplied by Ryokan are suspected of contamination of the hot spring water because norovirus has been detected.

After using the ryokan here, Oita Prefecture asked you to contact a nearby health center if you have any problems with your body.
