According to Chinese media such as China Dotcom, five residents of Yanggu County, Liaocheng City, Shandong Province, were quarantined after being diagnosed with skin anthrax on the morning of the 2nd.
The city's health authorities recently investigated anthrax on a cattle farm.
The five infected people were employees who worked on farms and were found to have been in close contact with cows diagnosed with anthrax.
They showed mild symptoms and are currently being isolated and treated.
Authorities are closely monitoring the health conditions of other employees and no additional cases of infection have yet been confirmed, it said.
It also added that cows were not released from the farm and were not distributed to the livestock market.
On the other hand, anthrax is an acute febrile infectious disease caused by infection with 'Bacillus anthracis', a soil-borne bacterium that generally affects ruminants such as cattle, sheep, and goats.
It is classified into skin anthrax, gastrointestinal anthrax, and respiratory anthrax according to the path through which anthrax enters due to zoonotic infectious diseases.
The most common symptom of skin anthrax is that itchy bumps appear in the exposed area and quickly develop into black ulcers. Headache, muscle pain, fever and vomiting can also be accompanied. The initial symptoms of gastrointestinal anthrax are similar to those of food poisoning, but if it worsens, it can cause severe abdominal pain, blood-throwing symptoms, and severe diarrhea. The most severe symptom, pulmonary anthrax, shows early cold symptoms but can progress quickly to severe shortness of breath and shock.
anthrax is a critical disease that causes sepsis and meningitis if not treated.
According to the medical community, the mortality rate of skin anthrax is 1% when treated with antibiotics and 20% when not treated.
The mortality rate of respiratory anthrax is 75% when treated with antibiotics and 97% when not treated. Gastrointestinal anthrax has a mortality rate of 25-60% when not treated with antibiotics.
