Consultation on the 'Reducing Reasons for Cancellation of Medical License' Proposition "Positive"
Aug 28, 2024
On the 28th, a medical group expressed the intention of "welcome" to a partial amendment to the medical law proposed by Rep. Kim Ye-ji, a member of the People's Power.
The amendment included reducing the reasons for revocation of medical license to specific violent crimes and sexual violence crimes.
The Korean Medical Association (hereinafter referred to as the Medical Association) said on the same day that it welcomed the position on behalf of the medical community and expressed its gratitude for the hard work of lawmakers who participated in the initiative, including Representative Kim Ye-ji, who reflected the continued opinions of the medical community.
The current medical law, collectively referred to as the Medical License Revocation Act, mainly extends the scope of revocation of a doctor's license to all crimes except medical accidents, and there was irrationality that the license would be revoked if a medical worker was sentenced to 'Credit' or higher for reasons not related to medical work and confirmed. As a result, it not only limited the basic rights of doctors, but also drove them to defensive and passive treatment, leading to the consequent inconvenience of patients and the public.
The medical association positively evaluates the National Assembly, including Rep. Kim Ye-ji's office, for trying to improve the system by proposing an amendment that reflects the opinions of the medical community and the public"If this amendment is passed, it will contribute to the disappearance of skilled medical resources and the resolution of the shortage of essential medical personnel due to the side effects of excessive regulation, and doctors will also be able to provide high-quality medical services to patients by being able to conduct reliable medical treatment."
The medical association emphasized that it will actively communicate with the National Assembly on all medical issues being discussed in the National Assembly, including the revision of the medical law.
