"Dandelion Kimchi Lactobacillus Effects on Weight Loss and Fatty Reduction"

WCFA19 (Wilac D001), a lactobacillus derived from dandelion kimchi, has been confirmed to be effective in weight loss.
In particular, it was found to be effective in reducing body fat mass and body fat percentage.
Kim Min-ji, a family medicine professor at Soonchunhyang University Seoul Hospital (Yoo Byung-wook, Bae Sung-hwan), and Shin Jin-young, a family medicine professor at Konkuk University Hospital, announced the results of a study to determine whether taking lactobacillus capsules made of WCFA19 (Wilac D001) has a body fat reduction effect.
The research team conducted a multicenter, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study of 104 overweight and obese adults from June 14 to December 24, 2021. There were 40 in the experimental group and 34 in the placebo group. The effectiveness indicator used DEXA.
As a result of analyzing changes in body fat mass of 74 participants, overweight and obese subjects decreased body fat by 633g (±1396g) after 12 weeks of oral supplement intake, and the control group increased by 59g (±1120g), showing a statistically significant difference.
The body fat percentage also decreased by 0.41 (±1.22)% in the test group and 0.17 (±1.21)% in the control group, showing a statistically significant difference between the intake groups.
Professor Kim Min-ji explained, "WCFA19 lactic acid bacteria found in the fermentation stage of kimchi are known to have the effect of suppressing weight and body fat growth. Through this study, WCFA19, a lactobacillus derived from dandelion kimchi, was found to be effective in reducing body fat and body fat percentage along with weight loss in healthy adults overweight."
The research team's paper was published in the famous journal Journal of Clinical Medicine in April 2024 under the title 'Efficacy and Safety of WCFA19 (Weissella confusa WIKIM51) in Reduction Body Fat in Overweight and Obese Adults)'.
