Meanwhile, according to Taiwan's Central Meteorological Agency, the earthquake occurred 9.7 kilometers below the sea in eastern Taiwan, 34.2 kilometers southeast of the government building in Hualien County, eastern Taiwan. Since then, aftershocks of magnitude 4.0 or higher have continued.
