Gyeongsang National University Hospital (Hospital Director Ahn Sung-ki) held an opening ceremony for the Gyeongnam Regional Trauma Center (Center Director Kim Geun-tae)' specializing in treating severely injured patients at 3 p.m. on the 9th and began full-scale operation.
The term "regional trauma center" means a trauma-only treatment institution equipped with facilities, equipment, and manpower that can provide emergency surgery and optimal treatment to severe trauma patients who are accompanied by multiple fractures or bleeding due to traffic accidents, falls, or amputations.
In 2017, Gyeongsang National University Hospital was selected as the Ministry of Health and Welfare's 'Gyeongnam Regional Trauma Center Establishment Support Project', and it was finally designated in June this year by preparing facilities such as trauma resuscitation zones, trauma wards, trauma intensive care units, and trauma surgery rooms, as well as a land helicopter with state-of-the-art medical equipment such as an angiogram and an extracorporeal circulator for trauma patients.
About 23.7 billion won was invested based on the basic business plan, including state funds (8 billion won), provincial expenses (1.7 billion won), and self-funded (14 billion won) for the Gyeongnam Regional Trauma Center installation support project.
The opening ceremony was attended by a total of 40 domestic and foreign guests, including Governor Park Wan-soo of Gyeongsangnam-do Province, Kwon Jin-hoe of Gyeongsang National University, Kim Gu-yeon of Gyeongsangnam-do Province, Deputy Mayor Cha Seok-ho of Jinju City, and Kim Young-dae of Busan National University Hospital. ▲ Report on the progress of the Regional Trauma Center ▲ Watch a promotional video of the Gyeongnam Regional Trauma Center ▲Welcome the hospital director and congratulatory speech for major foreign guests ▲Tape Cutting Ceremony ▲119Heli-EMS training patients.
Ahn Sung-ki, director of Gyeongsang National University Hospital, said in his welcoming speech at the opening ceremony, `The Gyeongnam Regional Trauma Center aims to provide systematic and integrated medical services to severely injured patients in the Gyeongnam area to reduce preventable trauma mortality to the level of advanced countries.' `I think the reason for our hospital's existence is to create a safe environment in which severely injured patients can receive treatment within golden time through organic connection with hospitals and clinics in the Gyeongnam area and provide high-quality medical services to Gyeongnam residents.'
Through the opening of the Gyeongnam Regional Trauma Center, Gyeongsang National University Hospital is expected to contribute greatly to maintaining life and improving the health of Gyeongnam residents by reducing the 24-hour response and preventable trauma mortality rate to severe trauma patients in Gyeongnam.
Kim Geun-tae, head of the Gyeongnam Regional Trauma Center at Gyeongsang National University Hospital, expressed his ambition, saying, "We will do our best to provide prompt and professional trauma treatment through the opening of the Gyeongnam Regional Trauma Center so that severe trauma patients in Gyeongnam can receive better treatment." We will make efforts to establish a trauma management system in Gyeongnam, ranging from rapid transfer to a trauma center to appropriate trauma treatment, rehabilitation and social rehabilitation, and prevention of trauma patients."
