Hallim University Gangnam Sacred Heart Hospital, Metaverse Birth Class for Married Immigrant Women
Aug 01, 2024
Hallym University Gangnam Sacred Heart Hospital completed the metaverse birth class for married immigrant women held from July 22nd to July 30th.
The birth class is a program that provides related information such as pregnancy, childbirth, child rearing, and care to mothers from multicultural families who are suffering from cultural differences and lack of information. It has been going on since 2013, and a total of 1435 people have participated so far this year.
Hallim University Gangnam Sacred Heart Hospital is actively using the metaverse in line with the dailyization of non-face-to-face education. The metaverse maternity class embodies a reality-like world in a three-dimensional virtual world, so it has a high sense of reality and immersion, and allows intimate interaction. In addition, it is highly satisfactory because it can overcome spatial limitations for married immigrant female mothers who do not have a guardian to visit the hospital together or cannot participate in offline education due to personal circumstances such as travel distance problems. The anonymity of avatars is also available, allowing participants to participate in education comfortably.
This birth class was held at SK Telecom's metaverse service 'ifland'. Classes consist of medical social workers from Hallym University's Gangnam Sacred Heart Hospital, as well as experts such as obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, medical staff, physical therapists, and nutritionists ▲ Changes by pregnancy cycle and precautions ▲ Psychological and emotional characteristics of pregnant and postpartum women ▲ Childbirth breathing method and physical activity of pregnant women ▲ Precautions for prenatal care and breastfeeding ▲ Drug use ▲ Neonatal development process after birth ▲ Nutrition management and baby food ▲ Newborn massage ▲ Baby shower with parents, etc., which teach the whole process from pregnancy to childbirth. A total of 150 marriage immigrant women and their families, including marriage immigrant women from China, Vietnam, Cambodia and Brazil, participated in the event. Participants were able to learn in each country's language through the conference room for each language.
In addition, we had time to openly talk about the difficulties in pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting through the 「Sharing the Experience of Married Immigrant Women」 program. Married immigrant women in the same language were able to build a social network by sharing encouragement and advice on Yang Wook.
Participants responded, "I feel comfortable because I don't have to care about what I look like even though my body is heavy.'"Fear of childbirth has decreased a lot.", "I could hear it safely at home," he said.
Lee Dong-jin, director of the Gangnam Sacred Heart Hospital at Hallym University, said, `There must have been a lot of difficulties in pregnancy and childbirth in other countries, but I hope that through this childbirth class, we will learn the information we need, interact with other mothers, and gain a sense of psychological stability.' `We will continue to promote various programs to help married immigrant women give birth in a healthy manner.'
Meanwhile, Hallym University Gangnam Sacred Heart Hospital has been conducting a specialized project to support multicultural families with the Seoul Multicultural Family Support Center since 2013, and operates a variety of programs such as vento programs, multilingual homepages, medical guides, and psychological and emotional support programs as well as childbirth classes.
