High blood pressure management and home blood pressure measurement are important. Patients with angina and heart failure are also useful

#.Recently, a woman in her 60s, A, was checking her blood pressure for basic measurements at the hospital and had a level of 170/100mmHg, which is equivalent to stage 2 hypertension. I usually thought my blood pressure was not high, but when I went to the hospital, my blood pressure was measured high. The doctor in charge recommended that A measure blood pressure every day at home and write a blood pressure diary. After a while, A, who visited the hospital again with a blood pressure diary, was confirmed to be relatively non-serious with an average of 125/80mmHg, which is the pre-hypertensive stage.

Hypertension is generally divided into systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure, and a combination of these two values determines the stage of hypertension. It is normal when systolic blood pressure is less than 120mmHg and diastolic blood pressure is less than 80mmHg, less than 140/90mmHg is the prehypertensive stage, less than 160/100mmHg is the first stage of hypertension, and more than that is the second stage of hypertension. Continued hypertension can adversely affect the whole body, including cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction, stroke, and kidney failure, so steady management is important.

However, although it is normal blood pressure, blood pressure may rise temporarily only when measured at a medical institution. It is caused by tension or stress, and for this reason, it may be difficult to check the exact condition by measuring blood pressure only when visiting a hospital, emphasizing the importance of measuring home blood pressure.

Home blood pressure refers to the process of regularly measuring and recording one's blood pressure at home. Unlike one-time measurements in hospitals, this can more accurately reflect one's daily blood pressure changes. By constantly observing changes in one's blood pressure, one can raise awareness of managing hypertension. It also secures accurate data and provides more reliable information to doctors, making it easier to establish appropriate diagnostic and treatment criteria.

As it is a self-measurement, an accurate blood pressure measurement method is also important. When measuring blood pressure at home, it is necessary to first remain stable, place the arm at heart level, and then attach the blood pressure gauge cuff accurately. In addition, it is preferable to measure in the same time zone and measure at least twice to record the average value.

Professor Joo Hyung-joon of the Department of Circulatory Medicine at Korea University Anam Hospital said, "The measurement of home blood pressure is essential not only for hypertensive patients but also for patients with angina, heart failure and kidney function." "This allows patients to continuously monitor their blood pressure changes, identify their usual blood pressure, and take appropriate medical measures."," he stressed.

In the past, the process of handwriting and checking blood pressure diaries was cumbersome, causing inconvenience to both patients and doctors, but recently convenient management methods have emerged, such as developing patient apps and medical staff web platforms that automatically record and show trends by entering blood pressure results on mobile or taking pictures.

In fact, at Korea University Anam Hospital, medical staff and patients who treat blood pressure-related diseases such as circulatory medicine, neurology, and renal medicine are increasingly using the app. Patients can write a diary through the app, and the doctor in charge can check the data in the clinic during outpatient visits.

Professor Joo Hyung-joon said, `It was practically impossible for medical staff to identify and analyze household blood pressure levels when writing by hand, but using the app can help systematic and patient-specific blood pressure management and prescription because various analysis results are provided to medical staff through the platform" he advised.
