Two children were injured when a part of the ceiling of the departure hall at Chiang Mai International Airport, Thailand, which is also frequented by Korean tourists, collapsed.

According to local media such as Amarin TV, the ceiling of the security checkpoint at Chiang Mai Airport collapsed at around 7:55 a.m. on the 3rd (local time).

Two Dutch and Chinese children were injured in the accident.

The Dutch boy suffered minor injuries to the back of his hand, and the Chinese girl was hospitalized with a 5cm tear in her head.

Airport officials compensated the two families with treatment, as well as new clothes, tickets, lunch, and VIP lounge tickets.

It also said it would provide initial compensation and work with the insurance company to provide additional support.

Ronnakorn Chalmsanyakorn, general manager of Chiang Mai International Airport, said "We deeply regret the accident and are taking all necessary measures to prevent it from happening again."

The accident was believed to have collapsed due to the weakening of the panel as the moisture in the air conditioner duct filled up due to recent continuous rainfall.

Local media reported that the airport had begun maintenance, such as replacing insulation and removing damaged panels.
