After the quarterfinal victory, the players sang a school song that begins with the Korean word `Our ancestors' old dreams are holy after crossing the East Sea,' which was broadcast live across Japan through NHK.
However, in NHK's Japanese subtitles, the proper noun 'East Sea' was changed to 'East Sea', and the lyrics 'Korean academy' were also sent out differently from the original meaning as 'Korea-Japan academy'.
In particular, whenever a Korean school song is broadcast on 'Goshien', Japanese far-right forces continue to post anti-Korean posts on the Internet and social media, creating controversy.
In response, Sungshin Women's University Professor Seo Kyung-duk sent an e-mail to NHK in protest, saying, `It is NHK's fault to mark the famous noun 'East Sea' as 'East Sea'", he pointed out.
Professor Seo also stressed that `I hope you will mark it correctly in the semifinals on the 21st.'
Kyoto International High School is a Korean ethnic school that opened in 1963 and was approved by the Korean government for the establishment of middle and high schools, followed by the Japanese government's official school approval in 2003.
