Lotte Pursues New and Beneficial Innovation through ESG Management

Aug 30, 2024

Lotte's ESG management aims to achieve 'Green Transformation 2040, growth together, and domestic governance leaders'.

To combat climate change, Lotte aims to become carbon neutral for group companies belonging to food, distribution, and hotel corporations by 2040 and carbon neutral for chemical groups by 2050. In order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and minimize the negative impact on the environment, the existing roadmap was updated last year with 'Carbon Neutral Roadmap 2.0'. 'Carbon Neutrality Roadmap 2.0' contains plans to reduce emissions from domestic workplaces by 22% by 2030 and 61% by 2040, compared to 2018. Six reduction measures are selected: expanding renewable energy, developing hydrogen energy, developing carbon capture technology, converting pollution-free vehicles, improving energy efficiency, and converting eco-friendly raw materials and fuels, and forming a group eco-friendly promotion team to evaluate carbon neutrality.

In addition, Lotte is operating a program to support overseas sales of partner companies as an activity to grow with partner companies. A total of 1,300 companies participated in the first 'Lotte-Korea Expo' held in Thailand in 2018 until last year. In June, for the first time, the '2024 Lotte-Korea Brand Expo' was held in Mexico, a Latin American country.

In March, it started supporting the welfare of its partners. More than 1,300 employees of Lotte Group partners were invited to Jamsil Lotte Concert Hall to hold the 'Lotte Happiness Sharing Accompanied Concert'. 'Higher, further! Under the theme of 'Beautiful Accompanied Growing Together', we expressed our gratitude to the employees of our partners for their hard work and provided a place for exchange to communicate with each other to strengthen our will to coexist.

In September last year, the '2023 Super Blue Marathon' was held at the Peace Plaza of Sangam Peace Park to improve awareness of the disabled.

The Super Blue Marathon, which began in 2015 and celebrated its eighth anniversary last year, attracted 8,000 people, including Lotte Group executives and employees, people with disabilities and their families. It operated a super blue course where the disabled and the non-disabled run together, a 5km course, a 10km course, and a half course. It plans to hold a Super Blue Marathon every year to provide opportunities for disabled and non-disabled people to run together and take the lead in improving awareness of the disabled.

In March, Lotte introduced the 'Selected Outside Director System' to 10 listed companies to establish sound corporate governance.

The senior outside director system is a system that seeks balance and checks by appointing a senior outside director representing the outside director when the inside director serves as the chairman of the board of directors.

In September last year, Lotte Corporation obtained the certification of 'ISO 37301', an international standard for compliance management systems, from the Korea Management Certification Institute. 'ISO 37301' is a compliance-related international standard established by the International Standardization Organization and is a global certification given after evaluating whether a systematic management system is established, implemented, maintained, and improved.

A total of 10 affiliates, including Lotte Global Logistics and Lotte Chemical, have also obtained international standard certification of 'ISO 37301'.
