Italian luxury brand Dolce & Gabbana has launched a perfume for dogs.

According to foreign media such as Grazia and The Times, Dolce & Gabbana announced that it sells dog perfume 'Pepe' for 99 euros (about 148,000 won) per 100 ml bottle.

This is the first case of entering the dog perfume market among large fashion brand companies.

The brand name 'Pepe' is named after one of the dogs of its founder, Domenico Dolce.

The development process of Pepe involved a Parisian master perfumer who has made Balmain and Paco Rabane perfumes, as well as veterinarians, animal behavior experts, and dog owners, the company said.

It also explained that it was approved by safety tests and veterinarians.

The perfume ingredient 'Ylang Ylang' in Pepe is an essential oil extracted from Cananga Odorata, a tropical tree native to Southeast Asia, and is also contained in Chanel No. 5.

Perfume requires a human touch.

According to the company's explanation, pet owners can apply a little perfume to their hands or brushes, and then rub or brush their dog's fur from the center of the body toward the tail. You can also apply it directly to your dog's body while avoiding the nose area.

On the other hand, there are also criticisms such as 'waste of money' and 'possibility of causing pet irritation'.

One veterinarian pointed out that "The fact that this company comes into this market at such a high price is an interesting way to get people to spend money on things that have little value."

He then said owners could use perfume to cover up their pets' unpleasant smells rather than seek advice from veterinarians about the risk of skin infections that could harm their dogs.

He also pointed out that dogs' sense of smell is so sensitive that they may hate the smell of perfume or show distracting behavior.
