A book has been published that presents a new way for patients who want to treat hypothyroidism.

Professor Lee Si-hoon of the Department of Endocrine Metabolism at Gachon University Gil Hospital recently translated and published a book Forget Your Thyroid So Far, Professor Antonio Bianco of the Department of Endocrine Metabolism at the University of Chicago in the U.S., which attempted a scientific approach to treating hypothyroidism, which is incorrectly known to be easy to treat.

The book was translated with Professor Kim Se-min of the Department of Endocrine Metabolism at Mount Sinai University in the United States, and listened to the voices of hypothyroid patients, suggesting a new paradigm for treating hypothyroidism.

Professor Lee Si-hoon said, `Some of the patients with hypothyroidism are not receiving proper measures even though they do not have adequate treatment effects"The book explains that we should be able to listen more carefully to the opinions of such patients and suggest other treatment options. "

In general, about 10% to 20% of patients with hypothyroidism around the world are not effective with conventional treatments. The book argues that the author should seriously collect complaints from patients with ineffective treatment and give more options based on his own experience treating patients in the clinic.

The book consists of five parts in total. Part 1 presents the crisis of hypothyroidism treatment. In addition to the negative experiences of patients with conventional hypothyroidism treatments, the role of pharmaceutical companies and the tenets and guidelines used by many medical staff as part of ignoring patients' opinions. Part 2 explains the scientific principles of the treatment of thyroid, thyroid hormone, and hypothyroidism, and provides scientific evidence for why some of the recommendations in the guidelines are flawed.

Part 3 explains when and how hypothyroidism was first recognized, diagnostic methods, and treatments developed to explain subtle differences in the treatment of hypothyroidism. Part 4 presents the reality and logical basis of residual symptoms experienced by patients despite T4 treatment (supplementation of T4, the thyroid hormone), through Dr. Bianco's research and the findings of fellow physician scientists.

Part 5 talks about the latest clinical department and methods for proper use of T4 + T3 combination therapy (supplementation of thyroid hormones T4 and T3). It includes information on the effectiveness of clinical trials and combination therapy, methods of performance, and the future of hypothyroidism therapy.

Professor Lee Si-hoon said, `If the introduction of animal thyroid extract in the 1890s is the first paradigm shift in the treatment of hypothyroidism patients, the second is the generalization of T4 monosuppressants in the 1970s.' `The story of a patient complaining of residual symptoms in T4 treatment and Dr. Bianco's persistent research process are contained in this book along with the history of hypothyroidism treatment.'

He added that "therefore, it is expected that T4 + T3 combination therapy will create a new paradigm shift.""
