Professor Son Hee-joong of Orthopedic Surgery at Nowon Eulji University Hospital (Hospital Director Yoo Tak-geun) won the Young Researcher Award at the Spring International Conference of the Korean Society of Vertebrate Surgery in 2024.
The 'Young Researcher Award' is an award given by the Korean Society of Vertebrate Surgeons to researchers with outstanding research achievements for members under the age of 45 and is determined by summing the number of SCIE papers and citation index.
Professor Son Hee-joong, who treats spinal disc disease, spinal canal stenosis, spinal trauma, spinal deformity, spinal tumors, and childhood scoliosis, has published about 10 papers on spinal diseases as the first author over the past three years. In particular, ▲ treatment of vertebral degenerative diseases and spinal metastatic cancer ▲ efficacy and stability of osteogenic protein (BMP-2) ▲ relationship between osteoporosis compression fractures and mortality through large-scale data analysis of population groups ▲ excellence in studies related to the incidence of spinal infections was highly evaluated.
In addition, Professor Son was selected for the Asian Traveling Fellowship program due to the injury of a young researcher and went to Tokyo University Hospital and Keio University Hospital in Japan for short-term training. Professor Son observed spinal surgery by local medical staff, shared knowledge about spinal diseases, and gave lectures on bone formation protein (BMP-2).
Professor Son Hee-joong said, `In an aging society, the number of people suffering from spinal diseases is gradually increasing.' and `We will continue to focus on research to find the best treatment for fewer complications and faster recovery.'
