According to Zhejiang TV and the South China Morning Post, a street cat with 10 metal darts embedded in its head, chest and back was found in a residential complex in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China on the 13th. The cat was rushed to an animal hospital by volunteers but died 90 minutes after first aid.
Local residents said the street cat had lived nearby for three years and was of a gentle nature.
Volunteers said they once took the cat to neuter and vaccinate it.
The next day, on the 14th, two other street cats that were hit by darts were also found.
In particular, a two-month-old kitten weighing less than 1kg had darts found on its head and chest, while another cat was stuck in its tail.
The kitten underwent removal surgery and was transferred to the intensive care unit, while the other cat was treated and is known to be in stable condition.
Volunteers also found a decaying cat in the area, which died with darts stuck in its body.
One resident told the media that it appeared darts were blown and fired.
She said "It's unforgivable to shoot a street cat with darts. I want to find the person who did this and call the police"I'm angry.
A blogger who works in rescuing street cats said, "I'm afraid more cats will get hurt. You can shoot people later" he urged the law enforcement authorities to pay attention.
According to later reports, a male suspect, believed to be in his early 20s, is under police investigation.
He is known to be the son of a state-owned shipping company executive, but it is unclear whether he will be punished, media said.
According to China's Wildlife Protection Act, street cats are classified as wild animals and are not protected by the Animal Abuse Prevention Act.
Netizens should be treated the same way", "What's wrong with a cat?", "I think I did it for fun." give a back reaction.
