In particular, places where you can play in the water, such as valleys, seas, and grass villas, are crowded.
However, you should always be careful because playing in the water becomes dangerous in the blink of an eye. There are not many medical institutions in the suburbs, so it is important to be aware of the initial response in the event of a safety accident.
Safety accidents and disease coping methods that can occur to children during the holiday season are summarized with the help of Sung Won-young, a professor of emergency medicine at Daejeon Eulji University Hospital.
▶Don't let your guard down even in a water playground for children
Safety accidents often occur in water play. Small water playgrounds and children's swimming pools are also at risk of accidents such as slipping and drowning, so the younger the child is, the more the guardian must go into the water and take care of him.
If you are old enough to go into the water alone and play, you should be careful not to deviate from your guardian's sight, and you should always keep in mind that there may be an accident while you look at the children in the water. The depth of the water is adequate to kick to the child's navel, and in the case of valleys and seas, it is easy to lose balance and get swept away by water, so you should not play in the water where the current is strong. It is better to play with shoes on because they can be hurt by sharp stones and glass pieces in the water, and if shoes or objects are washed away, children try to move alone, so it is better to wear sandals than slippers that come off as well as possible.
In addition, sudden jumping or diving into cold-temperature water can lead to a heart attack, so be sure to warm up, wet your body in the order of hands and feet → arms, and legs → body (heart) and slowly enter the water. If your body trembles and your lips turn blue while playing in the water, you should stop playing in the water and call it out of the water to warm your body with a towel.
▶In the event of an emergency, quick treatment is important
It is better to be familiar with simple first aid measures in case of an accident.
If you have cramps on your thigh while swimming, straighten your knees and tilt your big toe hard toward the top of your foot, and it will loosen soon. When a child falls into the water, do not panic and must approach from the back. This is because even rescuers can drown if they try to rescue them recklessly. First, it is important to check whether there is a reaction and perform CPR if there is no consciousness or breathing. In addition, if you press your stomach recklessly because your stomach is bulging if you drink a lot of water, the stomach contents may flow into the airways, which may be more dangerous.
In the event of a drowning accident while playing in the water, inform the people around you, and ask them to accurately point out one person and report it to 119. If the patient has no reaction or breathing after rescue, he/she should lie on a flat surface, tilt his/her head back with one hand, and pull the bone part of the lower jaw toward his/her head with his/her finger to support his/her jaw to secure airway and start ventilation and chest compression.
Professor Sung Won-young said, `In addition to chest compression, patients with drowning must perform ventilation"Be aware of the method in advance with related videos before traveling, and if you do not learn or remember at all, you can contact 119 telephone counselors on a speaker call to receive CPR for phone assistance."
▶Be careful of otorrhea after playing in the water
Most of the ear diseases caused by water play are external ear inflammation caused by bacteria invading the ear canal, which is a passage from the ear canal to the eardrum. At first, if the ear mucous membrane is swollen and the pain gradually intensifies, it can lead to sleep disorders and difficulty eating.
In particular, in contaminated water, the fat, which acts as a protective film for the ear canal, is removed, and bacteria can easily invade the sebaceous glands, so it is easy to cause inflammation.
Professor Sung Won-young explains "If your child suddenly has a fever and tries to pull your ears while holding them all the time, you should suspect otorrhea." To prevent otorrhea, do not rub your ears with your fingers or earplugs because water has entered your ears in the swimming pool, but take a shower with clean water and dry your ears or drain them. If you lie down so that the ears of the water in it face down, it flows out naturally. Still, if the water doesn't come out, wipe it lightly with a cotton swab and leave the rest to dry naturally. In addition, there can be emergencies in which insects often enter the ears in the summer. If you have no problem with your eardrums, you can take emergency measures by putting olive oil, alcohol, glycerin in your ears.
