Rep. Seo Mi-hwa proposes to strengthen support for type 1 diabetes patients

On the 22nd, Rep. Seo Mi-hwa of the Democratic Party of Korea proposed a partial amendment to the 「National Health Insurance Act」 that strengthens institutional support for type 1 diabetes patients and two partial amendments to the 「Act on the Prevention and Management of Cardiovascular Diseases」.
"Type 1 diabetes is a permanent damage that causes the pancreas to fail to make insulin in the body, and it is a de facto obstacle to fighting blood sugar for the rest of your life," Seo said"It is a very serious disease that causes complications in the eyes, kidneys, and heart as well as overlapping damage if they fail to respond appropriately to sudden changes in blood sugar.".
Some of the amendments to the National Health Insurance Act proposed by Rep. Suh this time have newly established special cases that allow medical support, including support for diabetes management devices and consumable materials in accordance with the Act and its enforcement ordinances and enforcement regulations, to be implemented as comprehensive insurance benefits.
In addition, some amendments to the Act on the Prevention and Management of Cardio-cerebrovascular Diseases stipulate in the law 'Type 1 Diabetes', and the Minister of Health and Welfare has revised it to train professionals for research, treatment, and management of cardio-cerebrovascular diseases to protect patients with Type 1 diabetes and other cardio-cerebrovascular diseases thicker.
Suh said, `In the course of deliberation by the Health and Welfare Committee, the bills proposed this time will widely discuss how serious type 1 diabetes causes pain to patients and their families, why the support system should be thickened, and ultimately why type 1 diabetes should be recognized as a disability.'
Lawmaker Seo said, `As the Ministry of Health and Welfare is currently providing services to recognize type 1 diabetes disorder with the aim of the end of the year, we will do our best to ensure that type 1 diabetes is registered as a pancreatic disorder by revising the Enforcement Decree of the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities Act" made a statement.
