Smile LASIK with excellent accuracy and vision, confirmed by research paper

Aug 19, 2024

More than six or seven of the ten people undergoing vision correction these days choose Smile LASIK and Smile Pro.

Replacing LASIK and LASEK in the past, it has established itself as a popular surgical method in Korea and around the world.

The corneal surface damage is relatively small, so there are few aftereffects such as dry eyes, and rapid vision recovery and postoperative corneal stability are excellent.

There is a paper that actually confirmed these advantages, so I introduce it.

This is the result of a study that confirmed safety and accuracy by comparing the corneal thickness and changes after smile surgery and conventional LASIK surgery, respectively. The paper was published in the Journal of Refractive Surgery (JRS), the top SCI international academic journal in the field of ophthalmology.

In this hospital, 80 myopia patients who underwent smile surgery and 78 patients who underwent LASIK surgery were compared and observed for overall corneal changes such as thickness and corneal curvature every week, month, and 3 months after surgery.

As a result, the change in thickness and curvature of the corneal center, central periphery, and periphery at 1 week postoperative was statistically significantly greater in smile surgery compared to LASIK. Between 1 week and 3 months, the peri-corneal thickness increased more after the smile surgery compared to the LASIK surgery, and the central and peri-central curvature increased less.

Although there was no significant difference between the two surgeries in terms of vision and residual refractive power at stabilized 3 months, Smail LASIK was superior to conventional LASIK in indicators related to surgical accuracy and quality of vision. Smile surgery had less average optical dislocation than LASIK, while corneal higher aberration increased more than LASIK SMILE. Corneal high-level aberration increases after laser vision correction, which corrects myopia and astigmatism by cutting the center of the cornea, which can also reduce the quality of vision.

Both traditional LASIK and the latest technologies, Smile LASIK and SmilePro, are useful methods for vision recovery. LASIK uses an excimer laser to cut the corneal surface directly, while Smile uses a femtosecond laser to make a correction piece in the corneal flesh and separate and remove it with a small incision window.

The reason why smile surgery has better quality and accuracy than LASIK can be seen as a result of the application of the centralization technique, which is a unique technology that prevents central deviation, and the recent increase in surgery, and the upward stabilization of the surgical technology of the intensive care unit.
