Smilegate Publishes Two E-books About Game and Content Accessibility

Smilegate announced on the 20th that it has published two e-books under the theme of game accessibility and content accessibility.

This is the first time that the game industry has published a book that deals with inclusive design that breaks down barriers to game use and accessibility, a technical capability.

'Game Accessibility Concepts and Examples' is a book that explains the concept and status of game accessibility and contains actual implementation examples. Game accessibility is a concept designed to allow users with various types of disabilities to experience games without barriers, and awareness is increasing as the game industry grows and user situations are diversified. It is estimated that 400 million people worldwide suffer from visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive impairments.

This book proposes ways to create an environment so that users of various conditions, including people with disabilities, can experience the game smoothly. It also introduces examples of accessibility features implemented in various games and manipulation aids that improve game accessibility.

'Content Diversity Concepts and Examples' explains the background and concept of cultural diversity, and presents various examples of how cultural diversity has been implemented in games, movies, dramas, and webtoons. Smilegate also discusses how characters of various races, ages, and physical conditions can be expressed in the game, along with examples, how they can have a social impact, according to Smilegate.

This e-book is based on insights obtained by Diversity and Inclusion (Diversity and Inclusion) from practical work such as research, interviews, tests, and reviews. D&I Room is an organization that helps users enjoy content regardless of their borders, age, and disability, and executes strategies to ensure that the results produced based on a culture of respect for diversity can lead to corporate performance. Various activities are being carried out, including the development of accessibility tester jobs to improve the accessibility of games for the disabled, hiring the disabled, and operating a D&I committee to spread the value of diversity within the Smilegate organization.

Baek Min-jeong, Smilegate CDIO, wrote, "When the main class of content consumption has expanded across countries and generations.""This publication is in line with Smilegate's vision to grow into a variety of content and user-friendly services as a global entertainment company."."

The two books will be available at Kyobo Bookstore, Yes24 and Aladdin, and Smilegate said it plans to donate the entire proceeds to games accessibility improvement activities to lower barriers to gameplay.
