Four people (as of the 27th) died after drinking wheat sold in northern Bangkok, Thailand, 'Klong Samwa', 'Minburi', and 'Nongchok', according to local media, including Saeng, and 28 people are being treated. Fourteen of them are in critical condition, which could lead to a further increase in deaths. Also, some reportedly lost their sight.
Residents who drank wheat complained of symptoms such as dizziness, shortness of breath, kidney failure, blurred vision, seizures, and unconsciousness.
Police arrested two men in their 40s who illegally made trafficking on the 26th. They were transmitted to each other as brothers.
Although methanol may be used in alcoholic beverages, the concentration should not exceed 1000 ppm. However, the methanol concentration of their wheat wine reached 100,000 ppm.
Methanol is highly toxic, causing headaches and dizziness, and in severe cases, it can lead to blindness or death.
Police and health authorities urged residents who drank the wheat to be tested at a hospital.
