Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, which also attracts a lot of Korean tourists, issued a measles warning.

According to Vietnamese media such as VN Express, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee declared the measles pandemic, which has recently seen a surge in cases of infection.

According to statistics from the Ho Chi Minh City Centers for Disease Control, there have been 85 cases of fever with a rash in Ho Chi Minh City over the past week, of which 20 were confirmed as measles.

Since the beginning of this year, a total of 525 cases of fever with rash have been reported.

Last month, three children with chronic diseases died of serious complications from measles.

In response, the committee announced plans to preemptively respond to measles outbreaks.

First of all, regardless of previous vaccination records, the government plans to vaccinate all children aged 1 to 5 in the area against measles.

In addition, the Ministry of Health plans to minimize severe cases and deaths by providing timely treatment to measles patients in local medical facilities.

Meanwhile, measles is an acute febrile rash disease caused by measles virus infection. Measles can cause fever, rash, cough, runny nose, and conjunctivitis. Most go through a naturally recovering clinical course, but rarely can be accompanied by severe complications in the respiratory and central nervous system.

Measles can be transmitted through the air and is highly contagious. The basic number of infectious reproduction refers to the average number of people transmitted by one infected patient during the period of infection transmission, and measles virus is the highest among viruses known so far. The basic number of reproduction of measles is 12-18, and the chickenpox virus is 5-7, and the COVID-19 virus (SARS-CoV-2) varies depending on the mutation, but it is currently around 1, indicating that the risk of spreading measles is very high.
