An aircraft tire under maintenance in the United States exploded, causing three casualties.

According to the New York Post and other U.S. media, the tires of a Delta Air Lines plane at a maintenance facility at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport exploded at 5 a.m. on the 27th (local time).

A 58-year-old and 37-year-old male employee was killed and another was seriously injured.

Delta Air Lines said the employees were working on replacing the tires of the aircraft at the time and believe the wheels before the installation exploded.

Delta Air Lines Inc. said it is "heartbroken that an accident at an Atlanta technology operations maintenance facility resulted in the loss of two employees and the injury of another." We will do our best to support the families of the victims along with a clear investigation into the accident" he said.

The U.S. Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the airport are also investigating the cause of the explosion.

On the other hand, aircraft tires are very strong as they have to endure tremendous pressure and high heat during landing.

Aircraft tires are known to withstand pressure of 200 psi, about six times that of automobile tires.

Also, the inside of the tire is filled with nitrogen because of the possibility of ignition due to instantaneous high heat.
