A video of a pregnant orangutan teaching how to breastfeed was released at an Irish zoo.

According to the Irish Times and the New York Post, female volunteers breastfeeding at Dublin Zoo in Ireland taught her how to feed a 19-year-old orangutan mujur.

"Muzur gave birth in 2019 and 2022, but the babies eventually died because they were not properly breastfed," the zoo said. "This time, we had to try something different, so we did this education."

Thirty breastfeeding women volunteered for the education, and four people each day showed Mujur feeding the baby in turn with a glass wall between them.

Volunteer Nora Murphy said "As time went on, Mujur followed actions such as milking by hand" and "Something really amazing and magical happened"

Midwife and breastfeeding expert Lizzie Reeves paid tribute to the volunteers for their dedication.

She said "The volunteers bravely took off their T-shirts and bras so that Mujur could see everything"

Unfortunately, however, the volunteers' efforts ended in vain.

According to zoo officials, Mujur, who recently gave birth, showed a different maternal love to her offspring than before, but failed to properly establish a nursing posture.

In response, the zoo separated the mother and the baby, and the staff breastfeeding them with bottles for several weeks. After that, he will move to a specialized organization in the UK with experience in raising orangutan cubs.

Meanwhile, the birth of orangutans is very important because they are a critically endangered species and females give birth to one cub every three to five years.
