Spain's oldest grandmother, Maria Bragnas Morera, has passed away at the age of 117.

According to AFP and Daily Star, Morera's family said on social media on the 20th (local time) that `Maria Bragnas left us' and `he closed his eyes, sleeping peacefully and painlessly as he wanted.'

Born in San Francisco on March 4, 1907, Maria Brinyas Morea had her 117th birthday party this March.

Morera was certified as the world's oldest person by the death of 118-year-old Frenchman Lucille Langdon in January 2023.

Morela, who settled in Barcelona, Spain in 1915, married a doctor in 1931, and remained married for 40 years before her husband died at the age of 72.

The couple had three children, 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, and one of the children died first.

The day before his death, Morela posted a message on his family's social media, "It was close. Don't cry, I don't want to cry. And most of all, don't suffer for me. "I'll be happy wherever I go," he posted, suggesting death.

Earlier in March, her birthday, she said "Old age is a kind of sacrament. Even if you lose your hearing, you will hear more. Because I listen to life, not noise." In the light of death, life carries a concrete and more decisive weight, he said.

Morera cited order and tranquility, good relationships with family and friends, contact with nature, emotional stability, and being away from harmful people as her secrets to longevity.

At the time, the family said Morera had no physical and mental health problems other than hearing impairments and mobility problems.

The scientist Marnell Esteller, who examined her health last year, said, `I remember the incident when I was just four years old, and I don't see any cardiovascular disease that is common in the elderly.' `It is clear that there is a genetic factor in the secret of longevity, given that there are several people over the age of 90 in the family.'
