An AirAsia flight from Guangzhou, China, returned an hour after takeoff. This is because smoke was detected on the plane.

AirAsia flight AK1395 departed from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport at 3 a.m. on the 26th and headed to Johorbaru, Malaysia, returned to Guangzhou within an hour of the flight, according to foreign media such as the Xinchu Daily.

One passenger claimed on social media that `All of a sudden, the oxygen mask fell from the ceiling with the smell of burning' and"the smoke began to spread within the aircraft.'

He also said he felt pain in his ears as he ran out of oxygen.

The crew also broadcast the in-flight announcement in a voice of 'anxious' but did not explain why, according to the passenger.

`It appears that the captain or crew did not elaborate, perhaps for fear of the passengers panic,' he said.

The plane returned safely to Guangzhou Baiyun Airport.

According to the Shinchu Daily, AirAsia arranged an alternative flight later in the day to allow passengers to board.

However, the reason for the return is not yet known.
