Language has an absolute impact on the entire life, from communication about survival to education, when migrants live in the society. The reason why these languages are difficult to settle is that languages contain all the culture, history, and values of the society, not just the skills of communication. In a situation where there is a lack of understanding of the cultural background contained in the language, something is felt in communication, and these walls act as a barrier to social advancement by acting as a 'Glass ceiling'.
For these migrants, University of Iowa Professor Lee Yong-sik published 'Archiving True Fluency in English'. The book published this time is especially for English as a second language (ESL), and in order to speak English fluently, it is necessary to be able to freely utilize expressions rooted in culture used in sensitive situations where nuance-rich conversations must be understood and persuasive, or negotiations overflowing with language play. Such a lack of communication skills hinders the formation of serious human relationships with native speakers to advance from important positions in the organization, and is likely to miss important opportunities in negotiations and on the diplomatic stage.Professor Lee Yong-sik's usual thoughts and experiences that emphasized " are mixed together, which makes it meaningful to ESLs. After completing the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in 1966, Lee Yong-sik completed a master's degree in political science at California State University in 1971, a doctorate in political science at the University of Colorado in 1975, and served as a professor of political science and administration at Iowa State University from 1976 to 2006. In addition, he taught 'Law and Justice' at the University of California, San Diego in 2007 as a visiting professor at Hong Kong Chinese University in 2006, and his representative book 'A Constitutional Theory of a Reasonable Public Servant' (2005) is being used as a textbook for the U.S. Graduate School of Public Administration. Professor Lee taught language and leadership ethics as a visiting lecturer at the Korea KDI School of Public and Management from 2008 to 2015, published books for people living English as a second language based on his experience, and serialized Citizen English Square for Korean immigrants in the American edition of the JoongAng Ilbo.
The content of 'Achieving True Fluency in English' published this time also introduced more than 250 commonly used idioms and significant expressions for deep communication with native speakers, and presented their cultural origins, creative images, and various uses as interesting stories. Professor Lee Yong-sik said "When English is acquired as a second language, it is necessary to make an effort to separately master figurative expressions or idioms that reflect Anglo-American culture or history.The publisher of Universe, which published the book, praised the purpose and content of the book and adopted it as a book selected by the Publication Committee.
