According to foreign media such as The Guardian, Spanish police announced on the 23rd (local time) that they had arrested five members of the fraudulent group in Andalusia.
The criminals reportedly intercepted 175,000 euros (about 260 million won) from a woman living in southern Andalusia and 150,000 euros (about 220 million won) from another woman in the Basque region.
According to police, the culprits committed fraud by establishing emotional relationships with women they met on Brad Pitt's online fan page and then encouraging them to invest in various projects that don't even exist.
Police explained "The offenders surveyed the victim's social network and created psychological profiles, which found that both women were vulnerable people who lacked affection and were in a state of depression."
The offenders then communicated with the two women via social media and email, prompting them to believe they were dating Brad Pitt, and then promising them a romantic relationship and a future," it said.
Police raided their seclusion and seized 85,000 euros (about 127 million won).
