A famous cafe franchise in China is angry after posting a video of its employees handcuffed with paper.

The company explains that the video was made to give customers fun and laughter, but netizens are strongly criticizing it for harming human dignity.

According to Chinese media Southern Network and Hong Kong media South China Morning Post, earlier this month, the cafe brand 'Good Me' created a video acknowledging the mistakes made by its employees and posted it online.

In the video, employees wearing uniforms wear 'couples' with their paper holders with their heads down.

In addition, some employees have paper signs on their necks that say 'forgot to put a straw in a cup', 'for overturning a teacup', and 'for not attaching an expiration date'.

In particular, one employee had a large paper sign around his neck that read 'I'm guilty of not putting a straw, not putting a lid on it, not putting a nut on it'.

When the video was released, online comments of criticism poured in.

Netizens say "Staff are human beings. Did you consider their dignity?", "It looks like the company is making fun of its employees.", "Too much video that is not fun at all" is being responded.

As the controversy spread, a store employee in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, explained that the video was for fun.

He said "The staff were willing to participate in the shooting. There is really no punishment as depicted in the video."

The cafe chain removed the video from its social media accounts and thought it was "fun and joke," but it caused misunderstandings that made consumers uncomfortable"We will be more careful in our marketing activities in the future.", he apologized.

Meanwhile, the cafe brand 'Goodmi' has more than 9,000 stores across China.
