Chang Dae-hyun, a professor of rehabilitation medicine at the Catholic University of Korea's Incheon St. Mary's Hospital, said "When a child is nursing or trying to put him to sleep, if he tries to turn his head only to one side, or if a small lump is touched on one neck, he or she may suspect speculation."The symmetry of the left and right developments must also be examined to see if the back of the child's head, forehead, eyes, and jaw shape are asymmetric."
There are various causes of neck leaning in infants and toddlers. In addition to the congenital muscular oblique, which accounts for 60-70% of childhood oblique, there are postural oblique (developmental oblique), 眼 oblique, and bone oblique.
Muscular oblique is an abnormality in the thoracic salivary muscle on both sides of the neck. When the thoracic salivary muscle is damaged, the damaged muscle contracts, tilting the head and naturally facing the jaw in the opposite direction. The exact cause has not been identified, but it is presumed to be caused in inappropriate postures during fetal or neonatal periods. In addition, if it is caused by various diseases of the eye such as strabismus, you can suspect Anseong Sutra. Rarely, the cervical spine or brain and spinal cord problems can cause speculation.
If a muscular oblique is suspected, ultrasound is used to confirm the presence or absence of thymic salivary muscle and the difference in thickness. In addition, it determines whether there are other causes by checking the child's developmental condition, eye movement, and X-RAY pictures of cervical vertebrae or clavicles. If neurodevelopmental abnormalities are suspected, additional tests are conducted. Muscular speculation naturally improves, but it is important to treat early if symptoms are present. It is necessary to start treatment early to prevent problems such as facial asymmetry, jaw joint problems, and scoliosis.
Pediatric oblique treatment basically includes rehabilitation treatment to correct the alignment of the neck and grow symmetrically, such as stretching the thoracic salivary muscles and training to strengthen the opposite neck muscles.
Professor Jang Dae-hyun "A muscular oblique is an intramuscular mass, and the length of the thoracic salivary muscle is shortened and should be treated through proper stretching."After three months of life, physical and emotional resistance increases rapidly as the child traps his or her neck. For effective treatment, it is important to detect symptoms early and start treatment before 3 to 4 months of age,' he advised.
If the condition does not improve even after rehabilitation treatment, surgical treatment such as thoracic salivary resection can also be considered. Postoperative rehabilitation is also important. If rehabilitation treatment is not performed properly, symptoms may appear again due to problems such as adhesion.
Professor Jang Dae-hyun said, "Most children's death can be cured by rehabilitation alone if they are detected early, so if symptoms are seen, it is better to visit a hospital as soon as possible." Most death cases are caused by neck muscle problems, but if it is due to neck bone or eye problems, misdiagnosis and physical therapy can cause more severe or serious side effects, so you should consult a specialist for proper treatment," he said.
