As many as 20 new marine species have been discovered in the deep sea, drawing attention.

A joint research team from the Schmidt Ocean Institute first discovered 20 species of marine life about 910 m below the sea while working on mapping the 'disbanding' on the NASCAR ridge off the west coast of South America.

Haesan refers to a mountain in the sea that rises more than 1,000 meters from the bottom of the deep sea.

The marine creatures discovered this time include the Bathyphysa conifera, a species of remission fly nicknamed the Flying Spaghetti Monster, an octopus resembling the animation Casper, and the Promacoteutis Squid, which has a structure similar to human teeth.

In particular, live Promacoteutis squids were first discovered and have existed only in a few specimens collected in the late 1800s.

An octopus resembling 'Casper' was also the first to be seen in the South Pacific.

As a result, the joint research team has actually discovered about 150 species of sea creatures since January when the exploration began.

Dr. Tomer Ketter, co-senior scientist and marine expert at the Schmidt Marine Laboratory, said "We hope that the data collected in this exploration will help establish policies to protect clean environments for future generations."

In addition, the team discovered a new 'Dissolution' that is more than 3,200 meters tall, about four times higher than Mt. Baekdu (2,744 meters) and the tallest building in the world, Dubai's 'Burj Khalifa'.
