Kim Hyung-soo, professor of cardiovascular thoracotomy at Hallim University Sacred Heart Hospital, took office as the 16th director of Hallim University Sacred Heart Hospital.



Hallim University Sacred Heart Hospital held an inauguration ceremony for the 16th hospital president at Ilsong Culture Hall in the floor on the 2nd. More than 190 faculty members attended the event, including Kim Yong-sun, head of Hallym University Medical Center, Kang Joon-gu, head of Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital, Lee Seung-dae, head of the administration, Ha Sang-wook, head of the planning department, Kim Joo-hee, head of training education, and Yoon Geum-sun, head of nursing department.

Kim Hyung-soo, director of the hospital, obtained his bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees from Hallym University Medical School and gained experience in overseas training in mechanical circulation assistance and heart transplantation at Columbia Medical School and New York-Presbyterian Hospital in the United States. Since then, he has been the director of cardiovascular thoracic surgery at Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital and is currently treating ECMO, heart and lung transplants, ventricular aids, and intensive care medicine at Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital.



In addition, he served as the director of the Korean Society of Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery, the vice president of the ECMO Research Society, and the vice president of the organizing committee '2023 Asia-Pacific ECMO Conference (APELSO 2023)' and is currently a member of the Korean Society of Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery, the Korean Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, and ECMO Research Society, and is actively engaged in academic activities. He also won the '12th Ilsong Award' in 2018, the 'Proud Holimer Award' in 2020, and the 'Korea Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery Association Medical Award' in 2021.

In return for ECMO treatment, Kim Hyung-soo, the head of the hospital, has grown the domestic ECMO treatment field to a world-class level. Through ECMO treatment in 2005, for the first time in Korea, it survived adult patients with acute respiratory failure and raised the level of ECMO treatment in Korea, which was in its infancy. The first ECMO center in Korea was opened at Hallim University Sacred Heart Hospital in 2015, and it is currently equipped with the largest and highest level ECMO system in Korea, and in 2017, ECMO was installed in an intensive care ambulance (Mobile ICU) to systematically establish a transportation system for severe emergency patients. In addition, in 2020, it was the first in Korea and the ninth in the world to succeed in lung transplantation for critically ill patients with COVID-19.



Hospital director Kim plans to pursue various tasks in the future. ▲ Strengthen capacity for high-severe diseases and emergency treatment ▲ Establish a regional linkage network for critical and emergency patients ▲ Establish a critical care transfer system between hospitals in Gyeonggi-do using ambulances for critical patients ▲ Innovate in the structure of beds centered on critical patients ▲ Establish a professional-centered care system ▲ Establish a smart hospital that combines advanced medical service systems such as artificial intelligence (AI) and robots ▲ Creating a safe treatment environment for both patients and medical staff was the key task.
