The Korean Heart Association (Chairman Park Seung-woo) announced that it will hold a 'Heart Day Walking Contest' at the Olympic Park Picnic Center located in Songpa-gu, Seoul on September 28.
Hosted and organized by the Korean Heart Association, the 「Heart Day Walking Contest」 was organized to raise public interest in cardiovascular disease and to promote the importance of walking, one of the effective methods for preventing cardiovascular disease, in commemoration of 2024 Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Management Week (September 1-September 7) and World Heart Day (September 29).
'Heart Day Walking Contest' can be participated through prior registration, and 1,000 first-come, first-served people have completed the application on the website of the Korean Heart Association.
The event will be held from 10 a.m., and the main event, the walking competition, will begin in earnest after greetings and congratulatory remarks from 10:30 a.m. After finishing the warm-up exercise with Yonsei University's motor medicine and rehabilitation laboratory, a 3km course will be walked within an hour of walking around the Olympic Park picnic area. Participants who have completed pre-registration and come to the site will be given a chance to draw various prizes along with souvenirs.
At the event, various activities will be prepared, including cardiovascular prevention and management campaigns held by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, as well as cardiopulmonary resuscitation training booths that the Korea Cardiopulmonary resuscitation Association can cope with emergencies.
In addition, various experience booths will be operated with major domestic cardiovascular disease-related societies such as the Korean Society of Hypertension, the Korean Society of Cardiovascular Failure, the Korean Society of Cardiovascular Intervention, the Korean Society of Vascularization, the Society of Cardiovascular Metabolic Syndrome, and the Korean Society of Echocardiography. The experience booth provides free measurements of physical strength, blood vessel age, blood pressure, etc., and conducts in-body and abdominal obesity measurements that analyze individual body composition.
Park Seung-woo, chairman of the Korean Heart Association, said "Following last year, this year's walking competition will operate various health booths in cooperation with major domestic cardiovascular disease-related conferences and the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korea Cardiopulmonary resuscitation Association, and more people will be able to access information on cardiovascular prevention." We have prepared a meaningful event through deeper government-academic cooperation for the cardiovascular health of the local community, so we ask for your participation and interest," he said.
"Heart disease is the second leading cause of death in Korea, and although it is of great importance, most of them do not recognize the exact symptoms of heart disease. The Korean Heart Association plans to prepare various programs as part of activities to raise public awareness of the three leading diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, and dyslipidemia, to prevent cardiovascular disease. We will continue to promote healthy lifestyles and contribute to reducing the incidence of preventable cardiovascular diseases for the heart health of the community,' he added.
