The pilot project for primary medical visits is a pilot project in which local clinic-level doctors provide in-person medical services to expand access to medical care for patients with mobility difficulties, and medical care began in December 2019 and oriental medicine began in August 2021.
According to the annual use of visiting medical services, 1,389 (431 clinics, 958 oriental medicine clinics) have visited 200,000 2020 (78,931 clinics and 123,089 oriental medicine clinics) to treat a total of 30,198 patients (23,274 clinics and 8,694 oriental medicine clinics).
By region, the number of patients in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province was 15,529, accounting for 67% of the total number of patients, and Sejong had the smallest number of patients with 11. In terms of oriental medicine clinics, the number of patients was highest in the order of Daejeon, Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon, with a total of 4,867, accounting for 56% of the total number of patients, and Ulsan had the lowest number of patients with 17.
The main diseases were dementia in Alzheimer's disease, essential hypertension, pressure ulcers and pressure areas, and oriental medicine clinics used visiting treatment in the order of back pain, other non-classified soft tissue disorders, and stroke sequelae.
Next, according to the current status of the public offering and billing institutions for visiting medical treatment pilot projects by year, a total of 3,933 locations (1,007 clinics and 2,926 oriental clinics) have been invited so far, but only 1,171 medical institutions (303 clinics and 868 oriental clinics) have actually filed claims.
In addition, as of July 2024, a total of 59,982 domestic medical institutions (36,302 clinics and 14,680 oriental medicine clinics) were found to be 2.3% (1171) of the total visitation pilot project. If oriental medicine clinics are excluded, the participation rate is only 0.6%.
Since the start of the pilot project, the number of people who have used visiting medical services more than twice per year has surged from 358 in 2020 to 4,664 in 2023. However, as of 2023, 31.6% of the total number of patients in visiting medical services (17,787 clinics and 3,950 oriental medicine clinics) were using visiting medical services.
Lawmaker Baek Jong-heon said, "The number of visiting treatments to increase access to medical care for patients who cannot go to the hospital has entered the fifth year since the pilot project began, but there are still many things to improve, such as compensation for low fees and reduction of patients' out-of-pocket expenses." "As the number of patients used in the first half of this year is rapidly increasing after last year, we will come up with measures to increase the participation rate and service reuse rate of medical institutions in the pilot project for visiting treatment with the Ministry of Health and Welfare."," he stressed.
