Sep 01, 2024

Professor Jeong Jin-ho of the Department of Dermatology at Seoul National University Hospital recently published a medical book for general readers 'healthy skin that protects my brain'.

Professor Jeong Jin-ho tried to convey knowledge about how healthy skin maintains and strengthens our brain functions through this book.

This book explains the relationship between the skin and the brain in five chapters. The first chapter analyzes the effects of UV rays on our memory, mind, appetite, and weight gain, and emphasizes that UV rays do not just affect the skin, but also affect brain function.

The second chapter deals in-depth with the relationship between skin aging and brain function. It explains the negative effects of skin aging on brain function and introduces that moisturizers play an important role in protecting and nourishing the brain.

The third chapter describes adiponectin produced in subcutaneous fat. It explains that ultraviolet rays reduce subcutaneous fat, which can adversely affect skin and brain health while inhibiting the production of adiponectin. It deals with details on how a lack of adiponectin can harm the health of the skin and brain.

The fourth chapter introduces the OB blood type sugar that plays an important role in the health of the skin. We present the latest findings on how this sugar contributes to strengthening the skin barrier and regulating inflammation.

The last chapter deals with various causes of skin aging and methods to prevent it. It explains various factors that promote skin aging, such as free oxygen, ultraviolet rays, thermal aging, menopause, smoking, fine dust, and skin inflammation, and suggests how to manage and prevent these factors.

Professor Jeong Jin-ho said, `Healthy skin is essential for maintaining a bright brain and a healthy mind,' adding, `Hopefully, this book will help readers maintain their cognitive abilities and memory normally, and lead a healthy 100-year-old era.'

Meanwhile, Professor Jeong served as the vice president of the faculty at Seoul National University of Medicine, a professor in charge of skin science classes, and the director of the dermatology department at Seoul National University Hospital.
