A U.S. paramedic who sexually assaulted an unconscious woman while being transported by ambulance has been charged.

According to U.S. media such as CBS News and Newsweek, James Melady, a 37-year-old first aid worker working for the Flagler County Fire Department in Florida, was arrested on the 11th (local time) on charges of sexual assault on a patient.

Investigators said they secured a video showing Melady sexually assaulting a female patient who lost consciousness inside an ambulance.

The woman collapsed in her home at the time and was being taken to a hospital in the Palm Coast area.

During the police investigation, Melady admitted the allegations, and the victim was unaware that she had been sexually assaulted.

Considering that rescue teams are dispatched hundreds of times a year, the police are investigating, believing that there will be more female victims who have been sexually assaulted by Melady.

A police officer said "It is shocking that he committed a crime against a victim who has lost consciousness in an urgent emergency situation" and asked "If you think you are a victim, please report it actively"
