It is known that coins collected at the Trevi Fountain, a famous landmark in Rome, Italy, are worth more than 2.3 billion won a year.

In other words, about 6.5 million won worth of coins are thrown a day.

Completed in 1762, the Trevi Fountain is famous for its wishful and coin-tossing site.

The collected coins are donated to Caritas, a non-profit organization run by the Catholic Church. The funds are used to fund food banks, free catering and welfare projects in Rome.

According to foreign media, 1.4 million euros (about 2.07 billion won) was collected here in 2022 and 1.6 million euros (about 2.37 billion won) was recorded in 2023. A larger amount of coins are expected to be collected this year, when the number of tourists has increased.

Due to the large amount of coins, they are collected in a special way.

They work twice a week, and when volunteers collect them with a broom, they are sucked in with a suction hose.

Meanwhile, there is a myth that good things will come if Trevi Fountain holds a coin in his right hand and throws it over his left shoulder. There is also a legend that if you throw one, you can come back to Rome, and if you throw two, you can come back with your loved ones.
