Spotted rocks have been discovered on Mars for the first time, making headlines.

According to the New York Post, NASA's Mars Perseverance Rover has discovered a black-and-white rock not previously seen on Mars.

NASA and scientists said "This could be a sign of interesting discoveries to come."

According to NASA, the rover discovered the striped rock as it traveled across the gravel terrain of Mars, measuring about 20 cm wide.

NASA named the rock 'Freya Castle'.

Scientists estimated that melting, migration and cooling of magma and lava may have caused the rocks to crystallize and solidify to form igneous rocks, resulting in streaks.

Mars has been an active planet for millions of years, creating an environment in which the rock can form.

NASA explained "This rock has a texture that has not been seen before, and is probably seen all over Mars."

It is also said that "This rock appears to have rolled downhill from perhaps higher ground, as it is a loose stone that is clearly different from the bedrock below."

Meanwhile, the probe first landed in the crater in February 2021 and is looking for rocks that could provide information about Mars' ancient history.
