Sep 08, 2024

Seoul National University Hospital recently opened a 'companied lounge' on the first floor of the cancer hospital, further strengthening patient-specific counseling services and educational programs.

The companion lounge is a complex space of 70 pyeong and is designed to meet various needs for cancer patients and their families. The space is equipped with a cancer information education center, a counseling center, an open studio, a multimedia zone, and a lounge, focusing on relieving the psychological burden of treatment and providing practical help. It is located on the first floor of a cancer hospital and has excellent accessibility, and has become an optimal space for patients to rest and recharge in the middle of treatment.

Since its establishment in 2011, the Cancer Information Education Center has continued to provide cancer treatment-related information and counseling services to cancer patients and their families. Through the relocation of the accompanying lounge, it plans to expand patient-specific counseling, cancer information content, education programs, and further develop a patient-centered treatment environment.

The center operates lecture-type education and participatory programs for cancer patients and their families. Lecture-type education covers all cancer treatments, including medical information for each carcinoma, treatment management, diet and pain management. The participatory program consists of activities to take care of the mind and body of patients, such as yoga, music therapy, and art therapy, and through volunteer programs involving cancer experiences, emotional support and practical advice between patients can also be received. In addition, information on cancer treatment and management is provided through various media such as homepages, leaflets, books, brochures, and videos.

In particular, the companion lounge is equipped with the latest facilities that allow both face-to-face and non-face-to-face education, so patients can obtain various information regardless of time and place. Through this, lectures and workshops will be held every month to improve the cancer treatment experience and provide practical help to patients and their families.

Cancer patients and their families who need cancer-related information and education are available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.

Kim Young-tae, director of Seoul National University Hospital, said "The opening of the accompanying lounge will allow cancer patients and their families to receive treatment in a more comfortable environment, and we expect the treatment process to be more comfortable."We will actively support patients' healthy recovery so that this space can continue to serve as a new hope and stability for patients in the future."
