The Life Love Crisis Response Center (Director Shim Se-hoon) at Cheonan Hospital, affiliated with Soon Chun Hyang University, recently received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare for contributing to the prevention of suicide in the region at the '2024 Suicide Prevention Day Ceremony' held at the Plaza Hotel in Seoul.
Suncheonhyang University Cheonan Hospital's Life Love Crisis Response Center has been operating an emergency room-based suicide attempter follow-up management project for 11 years since 2013, and has been operating a 24-hour management system since 2022.
The center consists of six people, including emergency medical specialists and case managers, centering on psychiatrists, and provides various medical services such as ▲ emotional counseling ▲ community connection ▲ treatment cost support when a suicide attempter visits the hospital's emergency room.
Last year, 613 suicide attempts were made to visit the emergency room of Soonchunhyang University Cheonan Hospital. Of these, 539 (87.9%) regained emotional stability through short-term case management (four times) services from the center.
Among the short-term case managers, 255 (50.4%) were also linked to community institutions (mental health welfare centers, etc.), increasing the rate of entry into treatment and lowering the rate of suicide retry, resulting in suicide prevention.
In December last year, the center held a large-scale symposium to mark the 10th anniversary of its opening and discussed the current status and prospects of Korea's suicide prevention policy, rehabilitation of suicide attempters to society, and preventive measures to reduce suicide attempts.
Shim Se-hoon, Director of the Center (Professor of Mental Health Medicine) "We are increasing the rate of consent and connection of suicide attempters every year through active intervention and case management."We will continue to do our best to help suicide attempters recover and stabilize their emotions, prevent suicide, and create a culture of respect for life."."
