At some point, A, an office worker, began to fall asleep in a hooray position with his arms raised above his head. Even if I lay in the right position, I often couldn't fall asleep unless I was in a hooray position, or my arms were raised without my knowledge.

After working in front of the computer for a long time, I thought that the neck or shoulder muscles were clumped or caused by fatigue, but when I woke up, my neck and shoulders were stiff and sometimes my upper back was sore, so I visited a nearby hospital and was diagnosed with `thoracic laryngosis.'

The spine, the pillar of our body, forms a straight shape when viewed from the back, but when viewed from the side, it forms two curves as a whole. The lumbar region extending from the shoulder to the lower part of the chest is diagnosed as 'thoracic lumbar' if 20 to 45 degrees is in the normal range but exceeds 45 degrees due to various causes.

Thoracic laryngitis is most often caused by bad posture, and other causes can be attributed to congenital, senile, ankylosing spondylitis, and trauma.

The 'back is bent' and the 'back is sticking out' Only after visible back, such as back, is the biggest symptom, and you should be careful because pain appears in the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae, or depending on the cause, it can lead to deformation only after severe back, causing paralysis of the lower body. Depending on the diagnosis, it will be treated through ▲ posture correction ▲ physical therapy ▲ assistive device ▲ drug treatment ▲ surgery.

Chung Dong-moon, head of the medical department at Daedong Hospital (neurosurgeon, head of the spine center), said "If you lie down and bow, you can lift your shoulders and feel uncomfortable due to shorter muscles between your neck and shoulders. However, if you have thoracic laryngosis, your back can be temporarily extended to feel cool and comfortable."Students who study for a long time and modern people who use computers or smartphones every day can have an imbalance in their body due to bad posture, but if they feel abnormal symptoms such as body parts looking bent or pain, they should visit a medical institution for diagnosis and appropriate treatment."

If maintained for a long time because of the comfortable posture, the burden from the neck to the waist can be put on during sleep, leading to musculoskeletal imbalances, and the tense muscles can pressure the nerves and cause numbness, so you should sleep in the right posture.

Use a pillow that is 4 to 6cm high for men and 3cm high for women to look at the ceiling and lie down immediately so that the body is in a straight line. Keep your arms and legs straight at a 45-degree angle and your palms facing the ceiling so that your shoulders don't dry.

If your back rises or pain occurs in a lying position, it is recommended to reduce the pressure on your back by rolling a towel under your knee, and if you have a spinal disease, it is recommended to put a cushion between your legs in a lying position on your side to make spinal curves natural by matching the height of your legs and shoulders. It may vary slightly from disease to disease, so decide your sleeping posture through consultation with medical staff.
