Police have launched an investigation after a passenger sitting in a subway seat in Japan suffered a burn on his hip.

According to Japanese media such as NHK and MBS, a 57-year-old male passenger sitting in a car seat on the Osaka Metro Tanimachi Line suffered a minor burn on his hip on the night of the 10th.

He got off at Miyakojima Station because he felt a burning pain in his hip.

The paramedics, who were dispatched at the report of a subway station attendant, moved the male passenger to the hospital.

According to police investigation, the man's seat was covered with a liquid that was transparent and odorless enough to affect only one person.

Authorities assumed that the man's skin was in contact with some kind of chemical due to the nature of the burn, and investigated.

The subway operator said it would replace the seats and strengthen inspections in the vehicle.
