One in three British men are reluctant to perform CPR on women because of concerns about touching their chests, a study has found.

According to a survey of 1,000 adults conducted by the British first aid charity St John Ambulance, 33 percent of male respondents said they feared criticism of the 'inappropriate' contact when administering CPR to a woman. On the other hand, only about 13% of women have such concerns.

According to the Daily Mail, St John's Ambulance is putting women at greater risk of dying from cardiac arrest"When it comes to cardiopulmonary resuscitation, everyone is the same," he stressed.

Previous studies have shown that only 68% of women are likely to receive CPR by witnesses, while 73% of men are likely to receive CPR.

The survival rate from the time of cardiac arrest to hospitalization was 34% in women while 37% in men.

In addition, in cardiac arrest, defibrillators can increase the probability of survival in cardiac arrest by up to 70% if used within the first 3 minutes.

However, defibrillators are effective only when pads are attached to the bare skin of the chest.

In a related survey, nearly half (46%) of male respondents said it would be uncomfortable to use a defibrillator on women knowing that they could take off their clothes, including bras, while only 31% of women said it was uncomfortable to use a defibrillator.

In addition, 23% of all respondents said they were less likely to perform CPR on women in public than men.

St. John's Ambulance emphasized that "it is always better to do something than do nothing in a critical situation" and that "unnecessary sexual fear must be eliminated when it comes to CPR."

※Bust compression method

-Lie the patient on a hard, flat floor with his back, and then place the heel of the palm of both hands clipped in the lower half of the thoracic bone (chest bone).

-While being careful not to touch the chest, press the chest to be perpendicular to the patient's body by lifting the weight with both arms straightened, and the compressed chest is fully relaxed.

-Chest compression is performed strongly and quickly with a speed of 100 to 120 times per minute in adults and a depth of about 5 cm (4 to 5 cm for children). 'One', 'Two', 'Three'…Perform it regularly while counting down to 'thirty', and ensure that the compressed chest is completely relaxed.

※Artificial respiration method

- Bend the patient's head and lift his chin to open the patient's airways.

-Hold the patient's nose with the thumb and index finger of the hand where the head was tilted, open the mouth wide, completely cover the patient's mouth, and breathe in for a second until the chest rises.

-When breathing in, check with the eyes to see if the patient's chest swells. After breathing in, take off your mouth and release your nose to allow air to flow out. -If you do not know how to ventilate or are reluctant, only chest compression is performed continuously except for ventilation.

※Repeat chest compression and ventilation

-30 chest compressions and 2 ventilations are repeated until 119 paramedics arrive at the site.

-If there are other rescuers, one rescuer performs chest compression, the other takes ventilation, and after five cycles of CPR (30:2 chest compression and five ventilation), they alternate roles.
