At the World Microscope Photo Exhibition, a picture of a mouse brain tumor cell won the first place.

Camera manufacturer Nikon said about 2,100 photos from 80 countries were submitted to the 'Nikon Small World Microscope Photo Exhibition', which marks its 50th anniversary this year.

According to NBC and other foreign media, after the screening, a picture of a mouse brain tumor cell taken by Professor Bruno Sisterna of the Augusta University School of Medicine in Georgia was ranked first.

This picture shows how disruption of the cytoskeleton of cells can lead to diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS. Lou Gehrig's disease).

Professor Cisterna's research was published in May in the journal 『Journal of Cell Biology』.

Second place went to Marcel Clemens, an Italian astronomer and photographer. His picture shows the electric arc between the pin and the wire.

Images of cannabis plant leaves captured by Chris Romain of Fort Townsend, Washington, came in third.

It contains a pink hairy plant tissue called 'trichomes'.

In addition, self-fluorescent materials on the faces of small two-spotted ladybugs and water droplets suspended from mucus fungi on rotten branches were also ranked.

Started in 1975, the contest evaluates the artistry of images taken under an optical microscope.

Both scientists and hobbyists will participate, and the winner will receive a prize of $3,000 (about 4.1 million won).
