According to the BBC and other foreign media, Turkish (Turkiye) Airlines flight TK204, which was flying from Seattle to Istanbul, Turkiye, on the afternoon of the 8th (local time), made an emergency landing in New York after the captain died on board.
The captain suddenly lost consciousness about four hours after the flight.
The flight attendants decided to make an emergency landing when they did initial emergency treatment on board but did not wake up.
"Unfortunately, the captain died before the plane landed," Türkiye Airlines said.
According to Turkish Airlines, the captain was identified as 59-year-old Ilhan Pelivan, who has worked for Turkiye since 2007.
The airline explained that no special underlying diseases were found during regular medical checkups in March.
In addition to Captain Pelivan, two more pilots were reportedly on board the plane.
