Chung-Ang University Kwangmyong Hospital Strengthens Robotic Surgery Capabilities to Introduce Da Vinci SP

Oct 25, 2024

Chung-Ang University Gwangmyeong Hospital (Hospital Director Lee Chul-hee) introduced Da Vinci SP, a next-generation robotic surgery equipment, to further strengthen its robotic surgery capabilities.

On the 22nd, the hospital performed the first single-hole surgery using Da Vinci SP. With surgery to remove a cyst in the kidney, the patient who has successfully completed the surgery is currently recovering quickly.

At the same time as its opening, Chung-Ang University Gwangmyeong Hospital introduced da Vinci Xi (da Vinci® Xi) and achieved 1,000 robotic surgeries in July this year, making efforts to treat severe diseases. Recently, Da Vinci SP, a next-generation robotic surgery equipment, has been introduced to further strengthen robotic surgery capabilities.

Da Vinci SP, a single-hole robotic surgical device, is a system in which a body insertion tube with three surgical instruments and one high-definition camera enters one incision and then splits in various directions at the surgical site.

Compared to Da Vinci Xi, it has the advantage of smaller scars and shorter recovery time. In addition, the pain is relatively small and the hospitalization period is shortened, so the patient's preference is high. It is especially used in complex surgeries in narrow areas, such as urology and obstetrics and gynecology.

Lee Yong-sung, head of the Robot Center, expressed his ambition, saying, "We will maximize the robotic surgery capabilities of Chung-Ang University Gwangmyeong Hospital through the introduction of Da Vinci SP" and "As a hub hospital for severe treatment in the region, we will provide optimal medical treatment through state-of-the-art equipment and techniques.'

The robotic surgery center at Chung-Ang University Gwangmyeong Hospital is conducting a wide range of robotic surgery in obstetrics and gynecology and surgery, centering on the urology department. In the field of surgery, robotic surgery is applied to high-level severe diseases such as prostate cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, stomach cancer, pancreatic biliary cancer, liver cancer, and gynecological cancer, as well as various diseases such as cholelithiasis and hernia, and provides optimal medical care through close cooperation with the anesthesiology pain medicine department. In addition, in the area of orthopedic surgery, the artificial joint surgery assistant robot 'CUVIS-joint' is operated to provide the best medical services.
