The research team of Chung Jin-woo, a full-time neurosurgery professor at Kyungpook National University Hospital, won the "2042 Neuro Fine Congress" and the "Best Nanuri Academic Award" at the 38th regular conference of the Korean Society of Vertebrate Neurosurgery held in Seoul from the 5th to the 7th of last month.
The research team published the study under the theme of Impact of Fracture Deficit Volume on Fusion Success in Anterior Odontoid Screw Fixation in dental protrusion fractures using a single front screw fixation. The study suggested an increase in old age, large fracture gap, and postoperative fracture defect volume as major risk factors for fusion failure in anterior fixation of denticular fractures. In particular, according to the results of the study, it was confirmed that the volume of fracture defects had the greatest effect on union.
Jeong Jin-woo, a full-time doctor, stated that "Minimizing the volume of fracture defects when performing anterior fixation of denticular fractures through this study is important for successful union" and that "surgery taking this into account is needed when establishing future treatment strategies."
The neurosurgery team at Kyungpook National University Hospital is expected to contribute to improving the treatment efficiency of dentition fractures through this study, and medical staff plan to further improve the patient's treatment performance through changes in the volume of fractures before and after surgery when establishing future treatment plans.
